Keep The Change, We Have Turtles

May to October is a great opportunity for our summertime visitors to witness a spectacular event, the nesting and hatching of sea turtles. Even though a hatchling is only about the equivalent of two quarters (small change) it will grow from 250 to 400 lbs upon reaching maturity. While sea turtles spend most of their time in the water, female turtles venture onto land during our summer months to hatch their eggs and bring into existence a new generation of turtles. Tourists can view the progress the sea turtles are making as new nests are located and marked daily by local volunteers of the Conservation Foundation’s Sea Turtle Research and Monitoring ProgramWhile these beautiful creatures may start out only as fifty cents their survival certainly invites big revenue as guests flock to enjoy the unique wildlife our island paradise offers.
